Charlotte Hughes wins “Best Apprentice in the Supply Chain or School’ Category in the London Councils Apprenticeship Awards 2020

“I’m so happy!!!! I didn’t think I would win, so I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but I did!!! I’m so overjoyed.” – Charlotte, Berkeley Group Plc.

Charlotte is a young mother of three who dreamed of a total career change. She wanted to better her life for herself but even more, for her children. With this dream in mind, Charlotte tried to find a pathway into construction to become a Project Manager, but when she was told that she didn’t have the required experience or qualifications to be considered, she returned to education.

After finishing her studies, Charlotte, looked for a route into the sector and found Islington Council’s introductory construction course for women. Charlotte was offered a work experience placement with Berkeley Group Plc where she excelled, being offered a Logistics Management apprenticeship as a result.

Charlotte’s determination and successful path makes her a great ambassador for more women to enter the sector, both in terms of reassuring employers, but also as a role model for other young mothers.

“As I started a family earlier on in life, I was unable to work as I was raising three beautiful children, but as they got older I decided to seek my dream job,” she says. “Islington Council has helped me enormously on the road to achieving my dreams – I don’t know what I would have done without them.” – Charlotte.

Well done, Charlotte!
