Nag’s Head and Holloway
Home to Islington’s only department store, Selby’s, which opened over 100 years ago, Holloway Road and the Nag’s Head town centre is a great destination for all your shopping needs. With its mix of large supermarkets, big brand shops and the famous Nag’s Head covered market, you won’t need to go anywhere else to stock up on the essentials, as well as buy new clothing or a gift for a friend or loved one.
There’s been a cinema on Holloway Road since the 1930s, although it only became the Odeon back in 1962. It’s now a great 8-screen venue to watch the latest blockbusters. Another historic venue nearby is the Sobell Leisure Centre which opened in 1973 and is the place to go for ice-skating, squash, a climbing wall and much more. A people’s plaque was unveiled on the site a few years ago to businessman and philanthropist Sir Michael Sobell who donated £1.1 million towards the centre.
If books are more your thing, Central Library is open seven days a week – and as well as the latest novels you can also hire DVDs and CDs, and use the free WiFi and PCs.
