30 years of care
Islington foster carer Chris Meadows has been awarded an MBE for services to fostering.
Chris and her family were guests at Buckingham Palace last week with Prince Charles the member of the Royal Family presenting her award.
Chris said: “It was a lovely day at the Palace meeting Prince Charles. Fostering is a really rewarding experience and it’s nice to be able to make change to a child’s life. I’d like to thank my husband Peter for being there with me, I could not have done this without him.”
Chris and her husband Peter have fostered with Islington for over 30 years supporting over 80 local young people and continue to offer a safe and stable home for young children.
The family have taken many different kinds of placement including emergency and respite but are still continually learning. “You learn things from every child that your foster, each one teaches you how to be a better foster parent for the next.”
Chris has been an important committee member of the Islington Foster Carer’s Association where newer carers can draw on her vast experience. “I was inspired to get into fostering by my parents, who fostered children in Harrow for 30 years too.”
