Double celebrations for Central Library

At a ceremony held on Tuesday 16 October children who completed this year’s Summer Reading Challenge where presented with medals, certificates and prizes. At the same time, attendees also celebrated the recent transformation of Central Library, which includes:

  • the redecoration of the ground floor entrance lobby, first and second floor landings as well as all of the staircases throughout the building
  • new flooring on the ground floor lobby, first and second floor landings and all of the staircases
  • new public toilets on the second floor
  • the renovation of the second floor Reference Library, which includes a brand new first class study area
  • the relocation of the First Steps Learning Centre from the ground floor to the second floor in a new purpose built space.

The transformation of Central Library is part of the council’s commitment to promoting reading and providing local people opportunities to learn and develop.
