How Vincenza creates a difference!
Creative activities are a brilliant way to bring people together, develop new skills and even help improve your job prospects. As part of Islington’s bid to be the 2019 London Borough of Culture, we are on the lookout for local people like Vincenza who are up for sharing their talents with others. We can give you support and possibly even funding to get you’re your ideas off the ground!
Vincenza has always had a creative streak but it wasn’t until her son was born that she started making and selling crafts for others. Her son was born prematurely and was in hospital for five months. Vincenza says that making crafts provided her with an outlet to deal with the stress of him being there. “The first blanket I made for his incubator was the catalyst for me to start creating again,” she said.
Since then Vincenza has been making jewellery, clothes and other crafts, all inspired by bold African prints. She sells them through social media and at pop up shops and markets.
Vincenza has used her talent to help others, she has run workshops for adults with learning needs and has contributed to a social project making a sensory room in a house for women with learning difficulties. She says: “The response from the people I’ve worked with has been incredible, it was really lovely to be part of that.”
We would love to hear from more people like Vincenza. If you – or someone you know – could create a difference please check out this page.
