Whether you’re doing the full Dry January, or just resetting your habits after Christmas, the new year is the perfect time to think about cutting back on drinking alcohol. We’ve put together a few ideas for local booze-free activities to help you along the way

Volunteer in a local park

Meet new people, improve your physical and mental wellbeing, gain practical skills and give back to your local community by volunteering in a local park. Find all the details on the Islington Council website.

Become a chess master

Every Wednesday, 5–7pm
N4 Library, 26 Blackstock Road, N4 2DW

Try chess for free At N4 Library – all abilities welcome, with groups for children and adults.

Pick up a new active hobby

Use the Islington Activity Finder to try out something new. From pilates to cycling groups, walking football and dance, there are options across the borough for everyone.

Dine out alcohol-free

Islington is full of independent restaurants and pubs with great alcohol-free options. The range of non-alcoholic beers, wines and spirits on offer has never been better, or you can opt for a classic lime and soda. Going alcohol-free doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your usual favourite spots.

Start a gratitude practice

January is the perfect time to reflect on what you’re grateful for. Practising gratitude can help boost happiness and January can be a difficult mental health month, so why not give it a try? Check out this video from the NHS for pointers.
