Celebrate LGBT History Month

February is the month-long observation of LGBT+ History throughout the UK. To celebrate the diverse and fabulous LGBT community in Islington (and beyond), we have put together the below list of events for you to enjoy. The full list can be found here.

Kick off things in style with the official launch night of LGBT History Month 2019!

Date: Friday 1 February 2019

Time: 5:30pm – 8:30pm

Where: The Conference Centre, St Pancras Hotel, 4 St Pancras Way, NW1 0PE

What: Celebrate the opening night of interactive exhibition ‘Loudest Whispers’, celebrating 10 years of LGBT history in the borough. Alex Green presents a cabaret of song and dance acts including King Of Camp “Doctor Woof” as seen on Xfactor, drag sensation Miss Krystal Ball, blues singer Bee Ororo, and country & western sensation Sarah Vista – and more! The free exhibition will feature artwork and interactive exhibits from the council’s Islington Pride archive, which is funded by a National Lottery grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The event is free and wheelchair accessible.

Celebrate the launch of a booklist curated especially with young children in mind…

Time: 11am

Where: Islington Museum, 245 St John Street, EC1V 4NB

What: Join Cookie MonStar for a drag queen story time that will be the launch event for Islington Libraries’ LGBT+ Under 5s Booklist. The list comprises classics such as ‘Red: a Crayon’s story’, ‘Donovan’s Big Day’, ‘I am Jazz’ and many more. Join Islington Guided Walks and Islington’s Pride on two of our latest LGBTQ+ adventures through heritage, including the rich heritage of clubs like Trade and French Kiss, and important LGBT community spaces like the London Lesbian and Gay Centre. The walks are free, but bookings are essential.

Dates: Saturday 9 February, Sunday 17 February & Sunday 24 February

Time: 11am

Where: Book a ticket here and the walk leader will get in touch about the exact meeting spot

What: Find out more about London Friend, Central Station, and the Gay Liberation Front on this King’s Cross walk. Explore the rich heritage of clubs like Trade and French Kiss, along with the London Lesbian and Gay Centre on our Clerkenwell trail.

Join like-minded people and make new friends – all whilst drinking coffee and eating cake!

Dates: Wednesday 13 February

Time: 12pm – 2pm

Where: Union Chapel, Compton Terrace, N1 2UN

What: February’s Drop In Service will be hosted by London Friend. Camden LGBT Forum will be working alongside other agencies including Islington’s Pride, London Friend, GALOP, Stonewall Housing and The Outside Project. The monthly events will bring people together to chat and discuss local LGBT issues.
