Reimagining the Packington Estate

Looking for a fun volunteering opportunity for all ages? Join Islington Council and The ARC community centre in planting 4,000 plants and trees on the Packington Estate

William Morris and Ruth Willmott Associates are donating more than 4,000 plants and trees to transform the four green spaces on the large Packington Estate, which is set near the Regent’s Canal, between Angel and Essex Road stations. The plants will be donated after being displayed at the Chelsea Flower Show at the end of May.

Be inspired by the gorgeous plants on display at the show and join Islington Council and The ARC between 8am and 5pm on Monday 30 May, Tuesday 31 May and Wednesday 1 June to be part of these exciting planting sessions! This is an excellent way to kick-start Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), and to meet new people and get involved in your local community.

Gardening and being outdoors is also a great way to get in some exercise and boost your mood – and why not bring along your kids for a fun day out during half-term? You can just come along for a few hours or the whole day.

Registration is not required but if you do plan to come along, please email so they can keep track of numbers. The planting will take place in various locations across the Packington Estate, including Packington Square, Canalside Square, Canalside Gardens, Union Square, and Rheidol Green. Meet at Packington Square or Union Square, where you will be greeted by Islington Council’s parks team or The ARC staff.

All tools will be provided. Please bring appropriate footwear and gardening gloves if you have them. If you don’t have any, don’t worry, as some gloves will be provided.

Co-sponsored by Remarkably, these sessions will be part of a wider volunteering programme which will be rolled out soon. This will involve building a community garden on the estate to supply the local food bank, as well as gardening workshops to help you learn new skills. Email to stay up to date and be added to the mailing list.

If you have any questions, please email, call 020 7683 1281 or pop into The ARC Centre, 98b St Paul Street, N1 7DF.
