David Mallory, who volunteers for Age UK Islington and Healthwatch Islington, has been named Islington Volunteer of the Year 2020.

David started volunteering in 2019 and both organisations nominated him for the award from Voluntary Action Islington to acknowledge and celebrate his outstanding work providing IT tuition and support during the pandemic.

David has been supporting people with complex health conditions through one to one phone and oom sessions – helping them to feel more confident in using their smart phones; setting up email accounts and keeping safe online. He has also produced many digital related articles and guides.

Navinder Kaur, Chief Executive at Voluntary Action Islington, said: “The experience of digital exclusion is a reality for many thousands of people living in Islington, and the pandemic has highlighted the startlingly high numbers that do not have access to basic technology that many others take for granted.

“Going forward let’s all make a pledge to join forces with David and act to ensure that those people who are particularly vulnerable have the right level of access, skills and confidence that they need and are not left behind. We can all play a role in this.”
