ANZAC Day 2021
The Islington Veteran’s Association commemorated ANZAC Day this year with a small socially distanced ceremony at the Islington Memorial Green, attended by Islington Mayor Cllr Janet Burgess as well as the borough’s new Deputy Lieutenant, Michael Messinger.
ANZAC Day is a national day in Australia and New Zealand, remembering all those who have lost their lives in war. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War, when soldiers from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey.
As well as commemorating the ANZACs, The Islington Veterans Association also paid tribute to the Turkish soldiers who lost their lives at Gallipoli and associated conflicts.
