Creativity for every age

If you’ve ever wandered past Whittington Park and spotted a whirl of music, movement and tiny dancers bursting with confidence, you may have come across Moving Waves. It’s the North London performing arts organisation on a mission to make creativity available to absolutely everyone.

Founded in 2016 by Tina Euri, Moving Waves began with one small, hopeful idea. It would be a space where children could express themselves freely, without judgement or competition. What started as a single class has since grown into a vibrant creative community spanning schools, nurseries, care homes and three buzzing academies across North London, including their much-loved Archway base right here in Islington.

A place where everyone belongs

Moving Waves’ approach is simple but powerful. Creativity should feel good. Their sessions are designed to build confidence rather than pressure. Whether you are three or 93, incredibly bendy or proudly not, each workshop is created with care, focusing on personal growth, joy and the magic that comes from trying something new.

With classes ranging from early years movement sessions to creative workshops for people living with dementia, Moving Waves has woven itself deeply into the fabric of Islington life. They run after school clubs, birthday parties and community events where local families come together for days full of dance, yoga, crafts and connection.

Intergenerational creativity at its best

One of Moving Waves’ secret superpowers is the way they bring generations together. Their family friendly events and workshops blend storytelling, movement and music in a way that lets everyone, from grandparents to toddlers to teens, feel part of the creative moment. The result is a joyful type of chaos with shared laughter, shared discoveries and memories that linger.

Award winning community impact

Earlier this year, Moving Waves was recognised by Small Business Britain’s IALSO F entrepreneur list, a celebration of inspiring female led organisations. For Tina and the team, the award was a reminder of why they do what they do and a nudge to keep championing community creativity in a sector that is not always easy to navigate.

Moments that stay with you

Ask the team about a moment that shows why their work matters, and they will tell you about their most recent Community Day at Finsbury Park. It was the kind of event that sums up everything Moving Waves stands for, with new mums swapping advice, local families meeting for the first time, older residents smiling through craft sessions and long-time Islington neighbours sharing stories about growing up in the borough. Art brought them together and something magical happened.

What’s next?

As summer approaches, Moving Waves is gearing up for their annual academy show. It is a big, bright, joy filled celebration that brings together around 500 families to champion their young dancers. They are also launching a brand-new training programme for young people aged 15 and over, giving local teens the tools they need to become the next generation of creative leaders.

From toddlers to teens to older residents, Moving Waves proves one thing again and again. When creativity is accessible to everyone, communities flourish.
