High street highlights and affordable finds
Winter wins on a budget
Winter can feel expensive, but in Islington there are plenty of ways to keep costs down while enjoying the season. From local markets and loyalty schemes to council support and hidden high street gems, here’s how to shop smart and stay festive without leaving the borough.
High street highlights
Islington’s high streets are full of independent shops offering great value and a personal touch. In Finsbury Park, Blackstock Road and Seven Sisters Road are lined with grocers, cafés, and world food stores. Stroud Green Road adds boutique gift shops and eateries, many with seasonal offers.
Further south, Old Street and Clerkenwell hide gems like Dress for Less and Pennies Vintage for affordable fashion and homeware. After shopping, treat yourself at one of the area’s many independent cafés.
For a festive twist, join the Archway Christmas Treasure Trail throughout December. Pick up a flyer at Archway Market or Library, follow the clues, and you could win a hamper and gig tickets. Entries close 17 December.

Markets full of winter bargains
Chapel Market and Nag’s Head Market are great for fresh produce, warm clothing, and handmade gifts. Look out for Alturath’s wraps, John’s designer glasses stall, and Le Petit Village’s international cheeses.
For vintage finds, head to Camden Passage, or browse Whitecross Market for jewellery at Melek’s Jewels. Archway Market, held every Wednesday and Saturday, is perfect for crafts and second-hand books.
Discounts and loyalty schemes
Sign up for the Local Buyers Club for 15–25% discounts at dozens of local businesses. Archway’s loyalty card and the Cally Card also unlock savings at cafés, shops, and services. Visit lovecally.co.uk/loyaltycard to download yours.
