Zipline boost
King Henry’s Walk Adventure Playground recently unveiled a series of major improvements. We spoke to playground manager Ella and parent Zoe to find out more.
What’s new here?
Ella: “So we’ve got a new outdoor stage and amphitheatre, stage lights and equipment so we can do community performances and events – the kids always love doing talent shows. We’ve got a new fire pit, zip wire, slide, sand pit and gym rings, plus better lighting and paths so it’s it safer and more welcoming year-round. Together, they’re creating more opportunities for young people to play, socialise and be creative in a fun, inclusive environment. It is incredible, we’re very thankful.”
What makes it so great?
Zoe: “My partner came here as a kid, and his parents did, too. It’s a massive part of the community and they are really amazing with the kids here. They do loads of things and it really brings the community together – it’s really hard to get that now.
“They’re amazing on the weekends when we come, and it’s good that they have the communication with the parents as well. They know you by name, and if anything happens, you know they’re on top of it, and that’s the reassurance that your child is OK, as well as having fun.
“In Islington, not everyone is privileged with an outdoor space like a garden, so when you’ve got kids being at school all day, sitting at a table, this is the best thing for them. I think it’s just a good space for them to run, be free, and be kids.”
The project was funded through a grant from the Better Youth Spaces Fund, a Government-funded programme delivered by the Social Investment Business.
