Literacy charity Bookmark is calling for volunteers to help get Islington children reading. Covid-19 has had a huge impact on young people’s learning: through its one-to-one reading programmes in local primary schools, Bookmark is hoping to help children catch up.
Volunteers are asked to commit to two 30-minute sessions a week, either face-to-face or online, to read, play games and chat to a local child aged between five and nine. Those who participate will receive full training and support, and are able to choose their session times to fit their schedule. Your support could make a lasting difference to a child, improving their reading skills, confidence, and giving them a fairer chance in life.
