World Book Night magic
This April, Islington Libraries are buzzing with excitement as we get ready to celebrate World Book Night on 23 April and you’re invited! Whether you’re a lifelong reader, a curious dabbler, or someone looking for the perfect excuse to start a new book, we’ve got something special just for you.
To mark the occasion, our libraries will be gifting one of this year’s specially selected World Book Night titles to visitors. That’s right: pop in, say hello, and walk out with a brand‑new book. Free, uplifting, and chosen to spark joy, curiosity, or maybe even a new favourite author.
And because 2026 is the National Year of Reading, it’s the perfect time to kick start your Reading Bingo adventure. When you collect your free book, you can also grab a Reading Bingo card, your playful passport to a year of reading challenges. Whether you’re determined to fill every square or simply want a whimsical way to track the stories you fall in love with, we’ve got you covered.
While you’re visiting, stay for a browse, borrow something unexpected, ask our teams for recommendations, or settle into a cosy corner with your new read. We love helping you discover books you didn’t know you needed.
And don’t forget to join the Reading Hour, from 7pm to 8pm on 23 April. Across the UK, people will be switching off their notifications, switching on their imaginations, and dedicating time to read. Whether that’s by themselves, in book clubs, with an audiobook, or even as a cosy family bedtime ritual. It doesn’t have to be the whole hour; even a few quiet minutes with a good story can feel like magic.
So come along, claim your free book, nab your Bingo card, and celebrate stories with your local library. This World Book Night, let’s read together.
