Help to keep Islington clean and safe

Over the summer, with more people out and about making the most of Islington’s outdoor spaces and socially distanced meet ups with friends and family happening once again, we also saw a surge in littering across the borough, and noise complaints hit record levels.

Park Ranger, Fiona is one of the people responsible for looking after Islington’s parks and greenspaces to keep them beautiful and safe places for everyone to enjoy – thank you Fiona!

Park Ranger Fiona

We spoke to her about her role and how we can all work together to keep Islington clean and safe:

Fiona said: “I have been a Park Ranger for 16 years. I love all aspects of my job, especially working with the public. Some of the highlights have included working on “Dog Shows” and being a judge for Islington in Bloom.

Due to coronavirus we have seen more people using our parks and so to help Islington to be the best it can be, when you visit our wonderful greenspaces please leave it as you want to find it by taking your rubbish home. Bag it and bin it.

“Once you have finished with your PPE face covers, please bin them because they can become a huge environmental issue to our wildlife, pets, a child may pick it up, or a person with a visual impairment could slip or fall. Please think of others and yourself.

“If you spot something that is not right please talk to the park attendant, Parkguard or Contact Islington.

“Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to the people of Islington and also our Friends of Parks group who help look after the greenspaces.”

If you would like to report overflowing bins or people behaving irresponsibly in our parks visit the council’s website.

If you are interested in joining a local Friends of Parks group, please email greenspace@islington.gov.uk
