New Highbury Pool set to make a splash
Highbury Pool – one of Islington’s most popular leisure facilities – is ready to reopen!
The much-loved pool hall, which sits within the Highbury Leisure Centre, was forced to close its doors in 2018 after being hit by a devastating fire.
Since then, lots of planning, extensive building work, and restoration have gone into bringing the pool hall back to its former glory. Now, the new and improved facility is complete and ready to welcome its first visitors when Covid-19 restrictions allow.
Exciting new pictures give a sneak peak of what the shiny new pool hall – which will be the perfect venue for both family fun and more serious stroke work – will look like.
The facility boasts a six lane, 25-metre main pool as well as a 10.44m by 9.47m teaching pool, with a new glazed spectator gallery being created for those wanting to watch on without getting their feet wet. All facilities are fully accessible throughout, with disabled changing facilities and pool hoists to aid access for all users.
After months of improvising and finding ways to stay fit at home during lockdown, the new pools will help local people to continue to embrace the physical and mental benefits of exercise.
The new pool hall will be unveiled when Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are eased and it’s possible for Highbury Leisure Centre – which is also benefitting from a refreshed gym and new functional fitness area – to reopen.
Keep an eye out for further details in the coming weeks!
