Exploring green careers

One session a week for 5 weeks – starting in January. 

In this course you will : 

  • learn about different careers within the green industries and what these jobs include 
  • discover how to get started in these jobs 
  • create a personal development plan to help you find success in the job you want 

Global warming and climate change

Central Library, 2 Fieldway Crescent, N5 1PF 

Short taster sessions or a 10 week course – starting in February. 

This new course offer will allow you to explore: 

  • causes of global warming and climate change 
  • environmental issues 
  • local, national and international policy and activism 
  • how to understand research and sources 
  • Islington’s eco-opportunities 

DIY energy saving workshops

The Training Facility, Unit 9 Bush Industrial Estate, Station Road, N19 5UN 

  • Tuesday 20 January, 10am-2pm 
  • Tuesday 10 February, 10am-2pm 

This course will: 

  • teach you about energy saving options which can help to reduce your energy bills 
  • give you practical skills to make home improvements 
  • allow you to discuss and learn about ways you can avoid damp, mould and condensation in your home 
  • demonstrate safer use of tools 

Cycle mechanics

Every Thursday, 9am-4pm, starting Thursday 5 March 

Moving on from the Level 1 Cycle Mechanics course, this level 2 course will equip you with the skills to get a job in the industry, working for yourself or for a local bike shop. Find out about work experience opportunities and how to get interviews. 

Digital skills for greener living

Arsenal Hub, N7 7BA

Learn how digital tools and apps can : 

  • help you live more sustainably 
  • save money and reduce environmental impact 
  • build your confidence using everyday technology 

From finding your local recycling points online to tracking your energy use or discovering green travel routes. You will explore how to connect with Islington’s community networks, and make small, eco-friendly changes through the smart use of technology. 

British values and civic life

This welcoming course helps Islington residents, especially those new to the area or new to the UK to understand: 

  • how local communities, councils, and civic life work 
  • about your rights and responsibilities as a resident 
  • how local decisions are made, and practical ways to get involved 

This course includes information on environmental stewardship and how to take part in community initiatives and programmes which protect the planet.
