From Markets to Minds

Various dates and locations across Islington’s Markets – see below

What if our markets were not only places to shop, but places to learn, question and connect?

We will be running a series of interactive, free, publicfacing events curated by Dr Emma Connolly, Fellow in Politics and Digital Civic Education at UCL, alongside her team of researchers and students.

These sessions place markets back at the centre of community life, as spaces where ideas are shared, questions are welcomed and learning is accessible to everyone.

We will be running two interactive experiences, across four dates:

Understanding Algorithms

Participants are guided through everyday decisions to help them understand how social media algorithms work, how content is shaped, and how online platforms influence what we see.

Plain English, handson, and designed to spark curiosity rather than overwhelm.

AI or Not?

An interactive game exploring deepfakes and digital media.

Participants are shown a range of images, videos and audio clips and asked to decide: AIgenerated or real?

The session builds confidence in spotting misinformation and encourages critical thinking in a supportive, engaging way.
